    “C: drive locked” error is shown

    After switching to windows 8 whenever I try to repair my c: drive it says c drive locked. I don’t know how it is possible I have not locked c: drive and it won’t let me repair my windows why is this error popping up? How to get rid of this? Please help

    A hard drive may be come locked or unlocked allowing or not allowing for software to have direct disk access. You may encounter an error indicating to unlock the hard drive in any of the below circumstances.
    • Attempting to install another operating system.
    • Attempting to fdisk the hard drive.
    • Installing software.
    Solutions

    To unlock the hard drive
    unlock x:
    The x represents the letter of the hard drive that you wish to unlock. For example, if you needed to unlock the C: drive, type c in the place of x.

    Method 1:
    Before upgrading to Windows 8, we recommend that you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.

    If you doesn't have a DVD then you may create a bootable DVD on a different computer and check.
    You may refer to the link in the mail that is sent when the product is purchased.

    You may try these steps to make bootable system disk of the Windows 8.

    a. If you have not already, you will need to download a 32-bit (2.8 GB) or 64-bit (3.6 GB) Windows 8 ISO file version you want and save it to the desktop in Windows 7 or Vista.

    b. If you have not already, you will need to download and install the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
    c. Run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, and click on the Browse button.
    d. Select the downloaded ISO file (step a), and click on Open. e. Insert a blank unformatted DVD into your DVD drive. Once it's recognized, click on the DVD button.
    f. Click on the Begin burning button.
    g. When finished, close the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
    h. You are finished, and can now install Windows 8 with your bootable USB or DVD.
