Autoplay stopped working in windows vista

Earlier when I was inserting any USB drive or any CD/DVD disk in my computer, it was able to Autoplay them. I don't know what happened exactly but now, my windows is not able to AutoPlay like before. Is there any way to enable this again?

Yes. Definitely,you can enable the Autoplay functionality again in windows vista. First of all open the command prompt as Administrator and type "net start shellhwdetection" and hit the Enter key. To reflect all changes, restart your computer. If the problem still persists then open the run command by pressing "Windows key +R" and type "gpedit.msc" and Hit Enter key. Now navigate to Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Autoplay Policies\ Turn off Autoplay. If you want to Enable the Autoplay functionality again then disable the "Turn off Autoplay" option and enjoy.

Re: Autoplay stopped working in windows vista

When you turn Auto Play on, you can choose what should happen when you insert different types of digital media into your computer. For example, you can choose which digital media player is used to play CDs. When Auto Play is turned off, you are prompted to choose what you want to do when you insert digital media into your computer.

>>Open Auto Play by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Auto Play.

>>Do one of the following:

>>To turn Auto Play on, select the Use Auto Play for all media and devices check box.
>>To turn Auto Play off, clear the Use Auto Play for all media and devices check box.

>>Click Save.

Thank you.

To solve that problem i suggest you these steps..

===>Click on Start button.
===>Into the search box type gpedit.msc and press Enter key.
===>After pressing Enter the Local Group Policy Editor window will open.
===>Click on Administrative Templates under the computer configuration.
===>Now click on Windows Component.
===>Under that you will see the AutoPlay Policies click on it.
===>Under the Setting section you will see the Turn Off auto-play.
===>If you want to set Autoplay than manage Turn off Autoplay section.

Click on the Start button and in the start menu search box, type auto and press enter, or if search does not find Autoplay, click on Start \ Control Panel \ Default Programs \ Change Autoplay settings

Listed are all the possible media and devices along with their default or changed autoplay settings. With each media or device, is a pull down (arrow) that allows you to modify the autoplay action. For example, if you wanted Media Player to start for all Video files, click on the arrow next Video files, select Windows Media Player then click on Save:

Browsing around, you will notice different options exist for other devices and media. Some of the common settings to choose from are Take no action, Ask me every time, and Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer. After making changes, make sure you you clickSave to save the new setting.
If you want to disable Vista's Autoplay completely, uncheck the Use AutoPlay for all media and devices located at the top of the Autoplay window:

To disable autoplay for one device or media, locate it from the list, and select Take no action from the pull down list.
Unlike Windows XP, pressing the SHIFT key when inserting media or connecting a device does not by-pass Vista's Autoplay, but instead, opens AutoPlay regardless of the default setting.
If Autoplay does not start after inserting media or when you plug in a device, but does work for other media and devices, follow the below steps as a possible solution:
• Click the Start button \ All Programs \ Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt.
• Click Run as administrator.
• At the command prompt, type net start shellhwdetection, and then press ENTER.
• Restart your computer
