Can Windows 8 be used without a touch screen?

I have a desktop with windows Vista and a flat panel monitor that is not touch operated. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Will I have to upgrade the monitor to use Windows 8?

Re: Can Windows 8 be used without a touch screen?

    Hi,
Yes in fact, few of my friends are using Windows 8 and they even do not have a touch pad. So you do not worry about having a normal PC. The configurations, however must be done by a professional vendor to adjust the required features according to your LCD flat panel screen. But later on as further versions of Windows come in, my prediction is that Windows will make its market slowly and solely towards touch screen monitors. I am not suggesting to buy a touch screen monitor right now, but as further versions come up and as touch screen monitors go low on prices, you can but one. Slowly you will see the tablets and touch pads to grab up the market heavily. So if not now, but in quite a few years, these are the obvious future.

    Hello,

The new windows 8 has been build to support the normal UI and the touch UI.

Basically the main reason for launching windows 8 with touch feature was to enter the Tablets market.

    Hence the Touch Feature.

But it can be used as normal windows by the users.

The only thing which you require is the minimum hardware requirements to support it.

So install it and run it if you have the minimum requirements on your PC.

    -Regards

    >> Yes, of course Windows 8 can be used as without a Touch Screen Device.

    >> Windows 8 is the advanced version of Windows 7.

    >> It can be run on Desktops, Notebooks, Tablets, etc.

    >> So, it doesn't means that it can be run only on Tablets with touch screens.

    >> It can be run on all Computing Devices like Desktops, Notebooks, Tablets, etc.

    hii

I would recommend you to upgrade your monitor to the touch interface as windows 8 will give you best experience if you have touch monitor ..

Though you can use it without the touch monitor too but touch monitor can give you the best out of windows 8 OS..
    thanks

Re: Can Windows 8 be used without a touch screen?

I have been using it on my Desktop with dual monitors, neither of which are touch screen.

I'm using the older Beta testing Win 8 Consumer Preview, (not yet upgraded to the next tester version), and it works fine on a Desktop. It will also work on a laptop that isn't touch screen.

Windows 8 is the first OS, (I believe), to attempt to span all devices like Desktop/Laptop, through tablets/netbooks, to mobile smart phone technology. So the Metro user interface, (the name apparently recently dropped by MS), which is what users first see when Win 8 boots up, takes on different aspects depending what device it is installed on.

There is no user intervention required, Win 8 understands what device it is installed on whether touch screen or not, and adapts accordingly.

    I hope that helps.

No, you don't need to upgrade/purchase a touch monitor to use Windows 8 . Windows 8 runs even on non touch PC's. But, in order to upgrade to Windows 8 you have to have minimum System Configuration:
Windows 8-32 Bit, 1GHZ Processor, 1Gigs of RAM & 20Gigs of Free storage space

Windows 8-64 Bit, 1GHZ Processor, 2Gigs of RAM & 20Gigs of Free storage space
