Cannot unhide hidden folders on Windows XP

When I try to unhide certain hidden folder in my PC running on Windows XP, I keep getting the error message “the folder is not accessible. Access denied”. I have already logged into the system as administrator. What should I do to resolve this issue?

First of all, disable Simple File Sharing feature on your system and then take the ownership of folder. Click the Start button for that and select ‘My Computer’ from the start menu. Navigate through ‘Tools’ menu and make a single click on ‘Folder Options’ option. Press the ‘View’ tab available and clear off the checkbox next to ‘Use simple file sharing (Recommended)’ option. After that, press the ‘OK’ button to turn off Simple File Sharing. Right click on the folder afterward and select ‘Properties’ from the pop-up menu. Press the ‘Security’ tab and wait until the Security message appears on the screen. Click the ‘OK’ button on that message and hit the ‘Advanced’ button after pressing the ‘Owner’ tab. Then, select the username you have logged in from the ‘Name’ list. Click the checkbox next to ‘Replace owner on subcontainers and objects’ and press the ‘OK’ button. Choose the ‘Yes’ option from the error message pop up on the screen. Press the ‘OK’ button afterwards and re-apply the permissions and security settings you want.

Re: Cannot unhide hidden folders on Windows XP

The Windows XP operating system and all versions of the Windows operating systems since Windows 95 hide system folders and preferences that users rarely would seek. However, there are times when users need to delete preferences in these hidden folders or configure a program using files that are hidden. A setting in the operating system allows users to make hidden files and folders visible.

    nstructions

    • Unhide Through Control Panel

      • 1Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel."

      • 2Click "Appearance and Themes" and select "Folder Options."

      • 3Select the "View Tab," choose the “Show Hidden Files and Folders” option and press "OK."

      Unhide Through Explorer

      • 4Click the Windows "Start" button and double-click "My Computer."

      • 5Select the "Tools" drop-down menu and choose "Folder Options."

      • 6Click the "View" tab.

      • 7In Advanced Settings, select "Show Hidden Files And Folders."

      • 8Click "OK."
