Cannot use CD or DVD with PC after upgrading to Windows 8

It is not possible to play either CD or DVD with my PC since upgrading to Windows 8. Even though I can hear the sound of disc spinning, no contents or audio from disc comes up on the system. I am not able to view any error messages too. Is there any fix available for this problem?

Try to run the hardware troubleshooter and see whether it can fix up the issue. As a first step, get into the Charms bar by pressing the Windows key + C on the keyboard. Type Troubshooting into the available field afterwards and make a single click on ‘Troubleshooting’ option visible under ‘Settings’ label. Then, locate ‘Search’ option and type Hardware Troubleshooter into it. Check the search results and click on ‘Hardware troubleshooter’ for running it. If this solution fails, then you need to update the CD/DVD drivers on your system. Move the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner and locate the ‘Start’ icon. Right click on that icon and choose ‘Device Manager’ from the available options. Go to CD/DVD section and double click on the device visible under it. Press the ‘Driver’s’ tab afterwards and make a single click on ‘Update driver software’ option.
