Data recovery problem on Windows XP external drive

I am using Windows XP professional. When I tried to copy some file to my external hard disk the computer hangs. When I check it again the filenames of the files and folder in the external disk is like a Greek writing. I can neither open nor delete these files. What should be done in such a situation?

In such situation you can try to de fragment your external Hard drive.
Goto START > Accessories > system tools > Disk de fragment.

One thing you can also do is if your any friend have windows 7 in his PC, try your external Hard drive on his system as because window 7 have options to solve problem. If your external Hard drive having any minor error it will fix it and you can use it without deleting your any data.
Last option is to format your external Hard drive, this will solve all problems but you lost your data.

    My dear friend..!!

As you said that there is the problem in your external hard disk when
you transfer your data my friend you can get rid from this problem
by formatting the external hard disk.
    Just format that hard disk,
Then you can easily transfer your data.

You have to transfer the data in that format
which is supportable by other computer where you cant to use it.
Means transfer the data in the good format
which is supportable by other PC.

    Thank u!!
