Deleted all files of XP but dual boot screen still shows XP with Windows 7

I had installed windows 7 over XP on one of my friend's computer. I extracted the ISO image and the EXE file. It was installed safely on another partition. My friend did not want XP there anymore. So after using windows 7,he has deleted the XP files. The partition was clear but it still shows XP and 7 in the dual boot screen. Is there any way to remove the XP from the boot menu?

You said that windows 7 is still working on your PC so follow the following steps in order to remove useless boot options from your boot manager:

    1. Open Run command by simply clicking Windows key + R
    2. Enter msconfig in the Run command.
    3. System Configuration window will open.
    4. Click on Boot Tab there.
    5. Select the OS which you want to delete from your Boot Manager. Before deleting Make sure that no any Option is set to default.
    6. Now Delete your desired option after selecting it.
    7. Check the Box which shows “ Make all boot settings permanent “ and click “Ok” .
    8. Click “Yes” to confirm.
    9. Click on “Restart” button to Apply the setting. You will not see those useless options now.

    Hello friend,

I have the solution for your problem just do as i say...............

1.If the Windows XP was in the other drive then you simply format that drive.

2.If that is not possible then you insert the Windows 7 CD in your computer.

3.Now you restart your computer and move to the installation wizard.

4.There you format the drive where the windows XP is installed.

5.And if you want format the Windows 7 freshly do it or you just skip it.

    Have a nice day...............

    Hi,
Deleting the files wont remove the xp from the dual boot option. You need to edit the boot.ini file which exists in the system32 folder to correctly remove the dual boot option. Visit this link for a proper step by step solution as to how to do that - techyv.com/questions/windows-xp-dual-boot-problem
