Device Manager is empty on Windows XP

I have PC which is powered by Windows XP. Its working well and I ever did formatting the system since I bought. Recently I came across the problem with Device Manager. When I stepped into Device Manager to see the devices on my system, it shown me a blank page. I was shocked to see this. I do not know how the system is working without Device Manager. Can anyone give me the correct solution for it. I also in need to know why this problem happens and also need tips to avoid such kind of problems in future.

For this problem, you need to edit the Resgistry.

    Follow these steps :
1.Go to Start->Run then type regedt32 and press Enter
    2.Maximize HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and go to SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
3.Select Enum and click on Security, permissions menu
4.Click Add then add the group Everyone also check Read only
5.Select System then check Full Control then click on Advanced at the bottom of window
    6.Click Ok
