Disk Defragmentation is available in Windows 8 too? Does it helps to increase the performance when using Windows 8 OS?

I want to know if Disk Defragmentation options is available in Windows 8 too? As I use to do every week in Windows 7 but am not sure what all the advantages we get out of it, so can you tell me what are the main advantages of doing the Disk Defragmentation? Does it help increasing the performance when using Windows 8 OS? Is there any changes done in Disk Defragmentation in Windows 8?

Disk Defragmentation is available in Windows 8, Windows XP as well as Windows 7 , it is very useful utility provided by the windows you can not only schedule a Disk Defragmentation process but can also do as required . To understand the Disk Defragmentation process we need to understand how data is saved on disks which is given below :

    • Data is stored in blocks size of small to very large depending upon data to be stored .
    • Space is left always between these blocks which is not usable .
    • This space reduce efficiency of Disk by wasting space on disks .

So , how to recover that small blocks of spaces is given below:

    • By using Disk De fragmentation we can reduce wastage of space on disks .
    • Disk De fragmentation basically shifts the file and arrange them so that minimum space will waste .
    • Disk De fragmentation is very heavy process and should be processed when you are not doing heavy tasks on your PC.

By using above window you can use Disk De fragmentation to be scheduled

Disk defragmentation does help improve system performance by decreasing seek(access) time to your data on the disk. But be advised:
[1]Defragmentation weekly can cost you your disk's life time.Only defragment after analyzing your disk and do so if necessary.
[2]If you are using an SSD(Solid State Drive),you might want to turn off defragmentation because it causes unnecessary reads and writes from and to the disk.

    Dear Friend,

According to me disk De-fragmentation is also available in Windows 8.

Disk De-fragmentation helps in improving system performance(like disks etc), by removing useless file from the system.

Disk De-fragmentation is available in Microsoft Windows 8, as same as in Microsoft Windows 7.

But you can also use external software's also to do this.

Some software's like - 'SpeedUpMyPC' can also be used for De-fragmentation.

Download Link for - SpeedUpMyPC is this - http://download.uniblue.com/site/pro...peedupmypc.exe

If you add and delete the data in your hard disc the data is scattered and the time taken to read the file from the different locations is time consuming and the performance comes down.
Here comes the disc defragmentor which takes the data from the scattered place and keeps the similar data nearby memories there by decreasing the time needed during recovery.
Disc defragmentor is present in windows from XP, and also available in 8.

    1. The truth is, your drive is going to work much harder if you never defrag at all! It is a common misconception that defragmentation is stressful to disk drives. In reality, fragmentation results in many more disk accesses.

Here is an example: If you have a file that is fragmented into 50 pieces, and you access it twice a day for a week, that's a total of 700 disk accesses (50 x 2 x 7). Defragmenting the file may cost 100 disk accesses (50 reads + 50 writes), but thereafter only one disk access will be required to use the file. That's 14 disk accesses over the course of a week (2 x 7), plus 100 for the defragmentation process = 114 total. 700 accesses for the fragmented computer versus 114 for the defragmented computer - the benefits are obvious.

    2. There's defrag software, such as Diskeeper 12, that optimizes your hard drives using a non-traditional method and is still necessary. The bottom line is that it doesn't make a difference if it's an HDD or SSD, if the underlying operating system is Windows you'll have fragmentation.

    Hope this helps!

hi dear friend..............the disk defragementation is also available in windows 8 also

    >> by using this option we can increase our pc performance

    >> When a computer is used, bits of data can be thrown around a disk in no particular order, and when you call up a program or file, the OS has to search the disk until it finds all of the data needed to call up that particular program or file. The result is programs and files taking a bit longer to open.

    >> Disk Defragmenter moves and data from the "end" of the disk to the "beginning". (or as close to the beginning as possible.) Since Windows searches the beginning of a disk first for data, this will make things a little faster.

    >> Defrag will also put data in the right order at the beginning of a disk, so Windows can find all of the data of a particular program or file all at once.

    >> defrag will compress some files (for better performance) so this will save some disk space.........THANK YOU

Re: Disk Defragmentation is available in Windows 8 too? Does it helps to increase the performance when using Windows 8 OS?

    Hi,
Disk Defragmenter is a management software, provided by Microsoft Corporation within Windows Operating System, for benefit of the users.

When the computer runs, it does Read and Write continuously, and in doing so it braeakes up data in smaller fragments, which it writes on the disk anywhere it can accomodate. In doing so files are fragmented, broken and kept without sequence.

Result is a lot of space loss, as inbetween spaces of two fragments are small enough not to be used but they are a loss altogather.
The longer seek time of data and a slow response to the user query is resulted.

Also a number of fragments of files gets unnoticed due to fragmentation and unaccurate seeking by the software related.

To remove this drawback defrag is used, which can unfragment, make files as continuous as possible, thus seek time, search accuracy and contiguity increse dramatically, and space is utilized perfectly.

Once a week or fortnightly running of Defrag keeps system health in pink.
    Thanks.

    Hello friend.........

Don't worry i have the answer for your question it is.....

1.Firstly check your disk space if you think that defragment is necessary then only do it If you do it repeatedly many times it may reduce your disk's life time.

2.If you do it after every long period of time it is helpful to increase your system performance.

3.If you are using 'solid state drive'. You have t turn off defragmentation As it causes unnecessary reads and writes to the disk.

    4. This is useful when you install and uninstall programs eventually.

There are many software's available for the disk defragmentation.

    All the best.........

    Hello friend,

I have the answer to your question it is.

By Disk defragmentation the system performance will get more faster as it can delete many unwanted files and folders.
If you install and uninstall many programs it is better to do defragmentation so it will delete the unwanted files.
But if you do it repeatedly it will reduce your drive life time.

Not only in Windows 8. It is better to perform defragmentation in any OS.

    Have a nice day.

    Hello Friend,

Disk Defragmentation Is Window Tools For Cleaning The Unused Memory And For System Performance And If You Used That Tools In Weekly Than Your System Performance Going Very Well So Used That.

And Windows 8 Provided That Tools. So Enjoy With Window 8.

the function of disk defragmentation is to defragment the drives.. which help in making more space in your drives..it regains the space that is lost in installing the programs.. so you must use the defragmentation program.. and it also help in increasing the performance...
