Displaying hidden files on Windows XP

Certain important files seem to be missing from my PC running on Windows XP since uninstalling a program. I want to view hidden files in the hard drive of my PC instead of only visible files for locating the missing file. What should I do to display hidden files?

Re: Displaying hidden files on Windows XP

You should first of all click on the ‘Start’ button and then on the ‘Control Panel’ to view the Control Panel window. Then, you should click on the ‘Switch into Classic View’ option in the left pane of the window, if it is in Category View. After that, you should click on the ‘Folder Options’ available in the window. You can then view a dialog box with four tabs on it. You should click on the ‘View’ tab and locate ‘Show Hidden files and folders’ option under ‘Advanced Settings’. Then, you should click on that option to display hidden files and folders. If the option gets enabled, then you can view a dot inside the circle near to it. Finally, you should click on the corresponding drive and try to locate your file.

    Hello my friend,

Windows by default hide certain system files and folders so that naive users cannot access them.

however if you want to see those files which are hidden just follow these steps.

    open windows explorer(win+E)
now press Alt to see the menu bar(if you can't see)
now click on tools menu->folder options

now a box will pop up
under view tab of this box check the option show hidden files and folder.

now window will show you all hidden files and folder.

    ALL THE BEST.

Re: Displaying hidden files on Windows XP

    Hello,
First of all let me tell you that the system itself has certain hidden files. This is sometimes kept for security purpose or due to some standardized measures. But sometimes your own files get hidden. First of all let me tell you how not to do it. When you click on some file or folder with the right mouse button, to check the properties there you will see two options to choose from. One is Read Only and another is Hidden. Never check hidden option for your personal and important files or folders.

Now let me tell you how to view those hidden files. You first go to Control Panel. You will get this option under Start Button in the Task Bar. Now you may change the view of the panel using the Views icon in the top menubar. From there itself you will get Folders icon. When you get there you will get the options of Show Hidden Files and Folders. You click on this option to see the hidden files of that area of your control panel. Mostly you can view all the options in your control panel. You do not need to view them separately as they are already visible.

Re: Displaying hidden files on Windows XP

There are two ways to hide or UN-hide the files in windows!

    Those are,

1:By hiding manually in properties of a file

2:By giving command attrib to a specific file

TO UN-hide files in windows xp follow these steps,

    1:Press windows + e for my computer

2:And then, click on file menu option at the top

3:And then,In folder options, view button

4:After that,Show hidden files and folders option

5:Finally click on,Apply followed by OK.

To UN-hide the folders or files using attrib command you need to know the name of the file.

For ex:attrib -s -h filename and then press enter

    That's it over!
