DVD/CD ROM Drive on Windows XP canít read DVDs

I have bought new Dell Laptop Inspiron 1300 recently and everything is perfectly fine except the DVD/CD ROM Drive. Even though the laptop can load all the files in CD and open them on D drive, it is not possible to play the DVDs inserted into the drive. Is there any way available to fix up this issue?

Click on the Start button visible on the left corner of the taskbar on the desktop. Select ‘Run’ option and type ‘regedit’ into the available field. Press the ‘OK’ button afterwards so that you can get into the registry editor. Go to the left pane and expand the path, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Erase ‘upper filters’ and ‘lower filters’ appears on the right side window. Right-click on ‘My Computer’ icon on the desktop and choose ‘Properties’ option. Click on ‘Hardware’ tab and press the ‘Device Manager’ button. Hit the plus sign near DVD/CD ROM drives and locate DVD ROM. Right-click on it and select the ‘Uninstall’ option. Finally, restart your system and check whether it can read DVD now.
