Re: Error 0x0000007B in Asus notebook with Windows on installing KB977165

    Hello Everyone,
I wanted to thank everyone for the great information and discusion in this thread!

We have found that there is only one patch that requires un-installation to resolve the blue screen issue. KB977165 is the patch in question, the other patches do not seem to cause the blue screen behaviour and do not need to be uninstalled.

With that in mind, here's the updated solution steps:
    1. Boot from your Windows XP CD or DVD and start the recovery console (see this Microsoft article for help with this step)
Once you are in the Repair Screen..
    2. Type this command: CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst
    3. Type this command: BATCH spuninst.txt
    4. When complete, type this command: exit

IMPORTANT: If you are able to uninstall the patch and get back into Windows, in order to stay protected you can use the following automated solution which secures your PC against the vulnerabilities that are resolved with KB977165 until you can successfully get the update installed without the blue screens.

Please see the link below for the article describing the vulnerability that is fixed with KB977165 and how you can get protected without installing the actual KB update:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979682

I also wanted to thank maxyimus for the great thread, and LThibx for their participation as well!If you are not experiencing the Blue Screen on reboot and you have successfully installed the KB977165 update you do not need to do anything.

The only situation in which you need uninstall the update is if you are experiencing blue screens on reboot.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks,If you find that my answer was what you were looking for, please remember to click the "mark as answer" box below!

    Thanks,

-This may be happen because BOOT sector viruses or hardware problem.
-Check your hardisk with the help of other system.
-If it is not working then you have to contact to Asus service center.

Removing the update from the Windows Recovery Console or using live media will get the system booting again, at least until the update is reapplied.

You can remove this update by following steps:-

1> Insert the Windows operating system CD in CD-ROM Drive, Restart the computer, Then press any key when this massage appear on the screen "Press any key to boot from CD",

2> After the Setup has loaded, on the first screen press "R" to enter into Recovery Console, You will be prompted to choose which window you want to log onto.

3> Press "1" and then Press "ENTER”,

4> If you have set Administrator then type "PASSWORD" in the password field then press "ENTER", If not then skip this step,

5> At C:\ prompt, type "CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst " (without quotes).

6> At C:\ prompt, type "BATCH spuninst.txt" (without quotes),

7> At C:\ prompt, type "Exit" (without quotes),

    your system will restart

    or

Get your computer to a professional that can replace the infected atapi.sys
Or you can reinstall/repair the operating system,
