External hard drive suddenly stopped showing under My Computer disk drives on my Windows 7

I have a PC running on Windows 7. Recently I bought an external USB hard drive. The hard disk worked fine until one day, when I cleaned up my cabinet and reconnected the hard drive. The hard disk drive doesnít appear in My Computer, and I tried reconnecting the device. Every time a ĎUSB Device Not Recognizedí message appears at the bottom right side of the screen. The hard disk worked on my laptop. What could be the problem?

Your problem arises out of a missing or corrupt device driver for the USB port.

If you can install the device driver in windows, you can reuse the hard disk.

To install device driver, you need to do this:

click START--CONTROL PANEL--SYSTEM AND SECURITY--DEVICE MANAGER--UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLER--DRIVER--UNINSTALL,to remove the existing ineffective one. UPDATE DRIVER from the same menu to reinstall latest device driver for USB.

    This will solve your problem.

    Dear guest,

Memory nowadays has become very portable. There are times when bill gates once said that 450 kb of memory was ought to be enough for all. But the present situation deals with GB of data and some are even computing with Terabytes of data. All this memory is hard to transfer. So as portable memory floppy disks came, compact diskets came, pendrives, memory card, portable hard disks came. All this is wonderful. Now that you have problem with connecting the hard disk with your pc there can be several reasons behind this.
    1. Try connecting your hard disk to your laptop and backup the data and format it.
    2. Check your computer for hardware related problems.
    3. Update your usb drivers.
    4. Connect the hard driver to different usb ports available on your computer.
    5. Check your computer for virus.
    6. Clean your conmputer files and defragment it.

These solutions given to you may help as I believe the problem is with your computer and not with the drive, assuming that it still connects to your laptop.

    Thank you....
