File extensions automatically changed to WMP in laptop running Windows Vista 64

My laptop running on Windows Vista 64 bit OS is having problems with files. Apparently, the file extensions are missing. Another problem is that these files open in WMP format, which I am not sure why. I tried a few things like ‘Open with’, ‘Always open with’ etc, but the problem persists. I tried registry editors and file fixing software to no avail. Should I perform a restore or is there any other way to sort out this issue?

    Hello there !!!

so if your file extension changes than which one changes to the WMP??
does your every file extension changes to WMP or particular file extension changes.

so what is that particular file extension.

ok so if you don't know this, then no need to worry.

if your file extension changes and your system is behaving abnormally.
then let me make you assure of one thing is that, you have been attacked by the virus.

since file extension can not be changed its own.

so what you need to do is to install the antivirus and scan your whole system and remove all the viruses.

    this will help you out.

hope i am clear to you.
    thanks for posting in EALP.
