Re: Firewall can’t be Set and it is showing some unidentified error

Microsoft reports that the Windows Firewall settings problem occurs only on computers running the Windows XP Professional operating system when you install the Service Pack 2, upgrade. The firewall issue doesn’t affect other versions of Windows, or the SP1 and SP3 upgrades for Windows XP.

    Symptoms and Cause
Windows displays symptoms that mean you won’t be able to start the Windows Firewall. One message is: “Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings” onscreen error message when you try to access the Windows Firewall settings.
Another message is: “Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)” item doesn’t display in the Control Panel’s Services list or, if it does display, you can’t start the service. The Windows Firewall settings error is caused by a corrupted or missing Shared Access.reg system file, which controls the Windows Firewall service.

    Troubleshooting Techniques

Microsoft recommends two troubleshooting procedures to remedy the firewall problem. Start with reinstalling the firewall from inside the operating system, using the Command Prompt tool. This replaces the missing or corrupted system file that causes the problem. The second recommendation from Microsoft is to create a registry file and add it to the computer's registry of essential system files.

    DEAR"""

The Windows Firewall protects your computer from the malicious software sometimes used by online hackers. If you receive an “unidentified problem” Windows Firewall error message, it means that the integrated Firewall service cannot start and your computer is vulnerable to unauthorized access. Prompt correction of the problem is vital to protect and secure the computer.

    Scope
Microsoft reports that the Windows Firewall settings problem occurs only on computers running the Windows XP Professional operating system when you install the SP2, Service Pack 2, upgrade. The firewall issue doesn’t affect other versions of Windows, or the SP1 and SP3 upgrades for Windows XP.

The second recommendation from Microsoft is to create a registry file and add it to the computer's registry of essential system files.

    Verification
After troubleshooting the problem, verify that the Windows Firewall works correctly so that you know your computer is protected from online attacks. In the Run command, type “services.msc” and then click “OK.” Check that the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) status displays “Started” in the list of services. If you continue to encounter problems, Microsoft recommends reinstalling the Service Pack 2 upgrade for Windows XP. Also consider upgrading to Service Pack 3 to ensure your computer is updated with the latest version of the XP operating system.

    dear friend,

Seems like you're using windows XP because this problem is only associated with Windows XP SP2.

Because of missing or corrupted Sharedaccess.reg file you're facing this problem.

You may also unable to see the firewall option.

As the symptom of this error, you can't access the firewall also can't change the settings.

There are two ways by which you can solve this error-

    1. Uninstall the windows firewall from the BIOS setup . After that try to repair your OS again using the OS DVD & it'll fix the problem by installing the firewall again.

    2. Use any sub-key to fix this problem from registry editor. After that Run service.msc from the RUN window & Start the firewall service by right clicking on the option.

But it'd be better if you switch to any other OS-you can go for windows XP service pack 3 by upgrading SP2.

Because this problem is only associated with Windows XP SP3 so you can't see it further.
