    Getting “:\Windows\system32\wow64cpu.dll” error on opening any programs on Windows Vista

    It is not possible to open any types of programs through my laptop running on Windows Vista. Whenever I try for that, I keep getting the message “C:\Windows\system32\wow64cpu.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support”. When I try to re-install the programs, I used to get an exe file which cannot be opened. Is there any way available to fix this issue?

    It is the error related to dll files of Windows Live Media. You need to register the dependent dll files for four dll of Windows Live Media like C:\Windows\System32\ntdll.dll, C:\Windows\System32\wow64.dll, C:\Windows\System32\wow64win.dll and C:\Windows\System32\wow64cpu.dll. Press the start button for that and type cmd into the search box in start menu. Once you can find the cmd program among the search results, right click on it and select ‘Run as Administrator’ option from the pop-up menu. Type the following commands into the command prompt window and press the ‘Enter’ key after each command.
    • regsvr32 /s ntdll.dll
    • regsvr32 /s wow64.dll
    • regsvr32 /s wow64win.dll
    • regsvr32 /s wow64cpu.dll
    If this solution does not work, type SFC /SCANNOW into the command prompt window and wait until the scan process get finished.

    HELLO FRIEND ,

    This issue is related to Windows Live Media it has these four dll's linked to them;

    C:\Windows\System32\ntdll.dll

    C:\Windows\System32\wow64.dll

    C:\Windows\System32\wow64win.dll

    C:\Windows\System32\wow64cpu.dll

    Manually register the dependent .dll files for this error.

    To do this, Click the Start -- Command --- Right Click on the Command Prompt from the programs list

    / Select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR / In the command prompt type regsvr32 /s ntdll.dll and hit enter / then regsvr32 /s wow64.dll and hit enter.

    / then regsvr32 /s wow64win.dll and hit enter. / then regsvr32 /s wow64cpu.dll and hit enter.
