Getting error “Please Insert a disk into drive” when trying to access the USB drive

I tried to boot windows using the Pen drive. Now whenever I try to access it, an error pops up stating “Please Insert a disk into drive”. What should I do to get my pen drive in working condition.

Re: Getting error “Please Insert a disk into drive” when trying to access the USB drive

This problem occurs when you insert your USB drive in any port. It throws a message because it tries to get a drive letter which is already reserved .You can solve this issue by following either of two below given methods:
    Method 1
Insert the USB drive before starting the windows. Make sure that USB drive is not set as the priority boot device. It has been seen sometimes that due to usb, windows hangs a bit during loggin on. If it happens with you as well then remove your usb immedietely and insert again when the windows starts. It will solve your problem. But If the problem is not solved then follow the second method.

    Method 2
In this method, we will use the Disk Management to change the drive letter and thus will assign a new drive letter so as to avoid overwriting. The steps are as follows:
Press windows key + R to open “Run”
Now type “diskmgmt.msc” and press enter.
You will now see the names of all drives.select your usb drive there.
Right click on the USB drive and click on “Change Drive Letter and Paths” and assign a new drive name to your USB drive.
Now close the setting and Open your USB drive.you would be able to open it without any problem.

Friend, this problem is mainly due to Windows cannot recognize the data on the USB Stick. So, you can format the drive and re connect it to the Computer.

Go To My Computer > Right - Click on the Drive and Select "Format".

Default File System will be FAT 32. But, you need to backup the data present in the USB Drive. By Clicking HERE.

Re: Getting error “Please Insert a disk into drive” when trying to access the USB drive

    HELLO,

A FEW THINGS YOU NEED TO CONSIDER IN ADVANCE TO AVOID SUCH ERROR MESSAGES:

    1. The PC has to support booting from a USB flash/pen/key drive. There may be anywhere from 0-3 items to change in the BIOS to make this possible assuming your BIOS supports it. Some older bios's may refer to your flash drive as a USB floppy or USB zip.

    2. The USB flash drive must support booting from it in general.
    3. The flash drive must contain the boot/system files.
    4. The flash drive must have boot sector area. This is done with special utilities.

THINGS YOU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE PENDRIVE AS BOOTABLE

    1. put the boot files in the pen drive.
(These files can be the files present on the windows Boot able CD if you are installing windows , otherwise any other files present on the corresponding Bootable CD.)

    2. Go to the bios by pressing del or F1 repeatedly when you start your computer before the windows XP appears on the screen.
    3. Go to the boot area of the bios.
    4. Check if your Pen Drive is listed there in the boot devices(Pen drive should be plugged in)
    5. Choose the pen drive as the First Boot Device.
    6.Press Esc key.

Re: Getting error “Please Insert a disk into drive” when trying to access the USB drive

    Hello,
Here is your ways for resolving this issue....

    1st way :-
Insert the removable disk in the removable drive before you start your computer. And make sure that the first boot device in BIOS is not USB drive, else computer may not boot at all.

    2nd way :-
    1. Log in as Administrator account in windows
    2. Insert your removable disk into the USB port.
    3. Click Start -> right click on "my computer" -> select manage
    4. Click Disk Management
    5. Right click on your removable drive partition (which is generally second option in the bottom window from top) -> click Change Drive Letter and Paths
    6. Change the drive letter from other drive letter like X: or Z: or like that which is not reserved by some other drive on windows by clicking on "Change" button

Now your problem will be resolved.........bye

    HI,
it seems that the pendrive which you are using is not bootable,
first make sure that it is bootable, then retry.
There is also chance that your pendrive is corrupted or having bad sectors
so check for errors and bad sector on other pc and then try fixing it
    then again try to boot.
    :-)

Re: Getting error “Please Insert a disk into drive” when trying to access the USB drive

    Dear friend,

The similar problem was faced by me some months ago when I was trying to boot up Windows 8 on USB thumb drive.
    To solve your problem:
    > Insert the USB drive on any USB port on your computer.
    > Put the Windows installation disk into CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive and boot up with that. You can use any Windows operating system such as Windows XP, Windows 7, etc.
    > When you are asked to select the partition for installation of Windows in the middle of the installation, select the USB thumb drive and format it as you do with the hard disk.
Now remove the Windows installation disk and restart the PC.
Your problem will be solved definitely.

    Thanks!
