    Getting error code 0x800106ba while opening Windows Defender on Windows Vista

    Whenever I make an attempt to launch Windows Defender on my laptop running on Windows Vista, I keep getting the error message “Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually”. I have restarted my laptop. But, it didn’t make any difference in the situation. What should I do to fix up this error?

    Click the ‘Start’ button and type services.msc into the search box before pressing the ‘Enter’ key. Provide either administrator password or confirmation if prompted. Double press on ‘Windows Defender’ service and click the ‘General’ tab. Make certain that the ‘Startup Type’ is set to ‘Automatic’ and press the ‘Apply’ button. Start the service by clicking the ‘Start’ under ‘Service Status’ option. If these steps can’t resolve the issue, then type cmd into the search box and right click on the command prompt. After selecting ‘Run as administrator’ option, type the commands regsvr32 atl.dll, regsvr32 wuapi.dll, regsvr32 softpub.dll and regsvr32 mssip32.dll into the command prompt one after the other and press the ‘Enter’ key. Run the Windows Defender again after quitting the command prompt and see whether the issue gets resolved or not.

    Hi Friend.

    This is the problem with your hard drive, especially given the errors and the clicking sounds.

    I suggest running a hard disk error check.
    Solution::

    1. Right click your hard drive, click properties, tools, error checking, check now, make sure both boxes are checked and then re-boot the PC.
    2. You should see the error checking routine start.
    3. Sometimes it does not work the first time, just do the procedure one more time.
    4. This error checking process can take a long time, do not interrupt it..
    5. Your windows down load may also be corrupted. If, afer the hard drive error check is complete and you still have the error, you need to navigate to \windows\software distribution\download and delete the contents of the folder. Then retry the Microsoft Update.

    This May be Helpful

    Thank you.
