    Dear Friend,
As you are getting Error 80246008 during installation of update on Windows XP,you might need to change the Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS) or Windows Event Log service settings, and then restart each service.
    >To change or restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) : -
    ~Open Administrative Tools:
click Start>Control Panel. In search box, type administrative tools and press enter and then click Administrative Tools .
    >Double-click on Services . If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    >Right-click the Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS) service, and then click Properties .
    >On the General tab, next to Startup type , make sure that Automatic(Delayed Start) is selected.
    >Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started and if it is not started then click Start.
*To change or restart the Windows Event Log service : -
    Open Administrative Tools:
    >click Start>Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools and press enter then click Administrative Tools.
    >Double-click on Services. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    >Right-click on Windows Event Log service and then click Properties.
    >On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
    >Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started. If it is not started then click Start.
After above steps your problem may fix.

    Regards,
    Dharmesh
