Getting error code C00D11D6 while launching Windows Media Player on Windows Vista

It is not possible to use the Windows Media Player app with my laptop running on Windows Vista. Whenever I make an attempt to open the app, I am getting the error message saying “The media rights system on your computer has encountered an error and needs to be manually reset. Error Code C00D11D6”. How can I get rid of this error message?
