Yes, it is possible to connect a different machine in your Windows PC through the help of Remote Connection but you have to make sure that your partner PC is also Windows, now just follow the simple steps to connect your system remotely.

STEP 1: Right Click on My Computer -> Click Properties ( Advanced system settings in Windows 7) -> Go to Remote tab in the System Properties window.
STEP 2: Select “Allow connection from computers running any version of Remote Desktop”
STEP 3: Press Apply -> and OK.
STEP 4: Now get the ip address of your friends computer by opening the command prompt and type “ipconfig /all” -> Press Enter to get the ip address.
STEP 5: Press Windows key + R and type “mstsc” and press OK.
STEP 6: Now type the ip address in the Remote Connection window and press Ok.

Now you can see that you are connected to your friends PC where you can control the whole system.

In order to Connect one Computer to another Computer,

    1) Turn both the Computers OFF, other wise Operating Systems may not start or one computer may boot itself from the another.

    2) Plug one end of the CAT5 Crossover Cable into each of the Computers' Ethernet Ports.

    3) Now turn on the Computers and sign in if needed.

    4) Open "My Computer" on both Systems and Click on "properties". Select "Computer Name" and ten "Change". You can give Unique name to identify.

    5) Right Click on "My Network Places", then Click on "Properties". Choose "Internet Protocol". Give Unique IP address as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 and the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 for both.

    6) Click on the Computer's Hard Drive that you want to share.

    # right click My Computers> Properties> Computer Name> Change> Workgroup

    # take note of the workgroup name

    Hello,
Connecting many computers to the network can be done in the following ways:

    Method 1

1.You can use a CAT 5 cable which is parallel(crossover) and connect it directly to the ethernet ports available on the computers.
(Note:This is only possible in case of 2 computers )
2.You need to set your computers i/p address .
3.You can do this by opening network from the small right corner of your desktop
    4.Then click on adapter settings.
5.Select properties and then select IP v4 from the various options which comes.
    LAN settings.jpg
3.Double click on IP v 4 then you will get a screen like this one
    LAN 2.jpg
4.And then set the IP address of your computer.
5.Do the same for the other computer.
6.Now to copy and share you can use softwares line LAN viewer.
    7.Download from here http://lan-viewer.en.softonic.com/

8.You can scan the other computers by using this software and even copy the shared data.

    Method 2
1.In this method you can use normal LAN wire
2.This method is basically to connect many computers to each other in a network
3.This can be done by use a LAN port.
    LAN port.jpg
4.The IP settings will be the same which we discussed earlier.
5.And you can use the same software to scan and copy data from other computers in the network

    Regards
    -Abhishek
