How to fix the error 0x80070424 on Windows Vista?

When I try to check updates for Windows Vista Home Premium on my PC, I got a message saying “The service is not running. You may need to restart your computer”. It also displayed an error code 0x80070424. I was not able to remove the error even after restarting the PC. In what way can I fix up this error?

Go to the bottom part of the screen and click on the ‘Start’ button. This will bring up a menu with lots of options. Navigate through that menu and find out ‘Run’ option. Once you locate that option, make a single click on it. A text field will then appear on the screen along with ‘OK’ and ‘Cancel’ buttons. Type the command, %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL into that field. Press either ‘OK’ button or Enter key and check whether it is possible to install updates after that.
