How to fix error 80074F8F in windows vista?

I am consistently getting an error 80074F8F. I am simply a user not a technocrat so don't know the solution. Many people are saying that this problem occurs due to date and hours mismatch in BIOS. What do you suggest?

Re: How to fix error 80074F8F in windows vista?

    Dear Friend!!
Yes this error occurs due to BIOS(Basic input output system) Date and time settings.
    To fix this-
If you receive Windows Update error 80072f8f while checking for updates, your computer's date and time might not be the same as the date and time for the online Windows Update service. Your computer and the service don't need to have an identical date and time, but if they vary too much it will prevent you from checking for updates. The following steps are the most common solutions for this error code. For more advanced troubleshooting information, go to this Knowledge Base article on the Microsoft Help and Support website.
To change your computer's date and time

    • Open Date and Time by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Date and Time.
    • On the Date and Time tab, make sure that your computer's date and time are correct. If they're not, click Change date and time. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • In the Date and Time Settings dialog box, do the following:
      • To change the date, under Date, click the left or right arrows to find the current month in the calendar, and then click the current date.
      • To change the time, under Time, double-click the hour, minutes, or seconds that you want to change, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
    • When you have finished changing the time settings, click OK.
else better way is to correct the date via internet-
When you synchronize your computer's clock with an Internet time server, the clock on your computer is updated to match the clock on the time server. This helps make sure that the clock on your computer is always accurate. Your computer's clock is typically synchronized with the Internet time server once a week but your computer must be connected to the Internet for the synchronization to occur.

Re: How to fix error 80074F8F in windows vista?

    Hi,

The error display is due to mismatch in the system clock and the Windows Updater timing and can be solved easily.

Click start > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Date and Time.
On Date and Time tab, correct computer's date and time,by clicking Change date and time.
In Date and Time Settings dialog box, do the following:

When you've finished setting the date and time , click OK, Exit.

Another way to correct the Date and Time is:
Click on the time notification at the extreme right corner of Taskbar, on the following menu click on change date and time settings, and take necessary steps.
    Both the ways are similar.

    Thanks.

Note 2: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
