Yes, in Windows 7 you cannot see the mapping network drive shortcut from the Start menu, just follow the steps given to Map the drive.

STEP 1: Go to My Computer -> Check the top menu below the address bar where it as the options like Properties, Uninstall and so on in that select the “Map Network Drive”.
STEP 2: Now in the Map Network Drive window select the drive letter which you want and in the Folder path paste your network drive path example \\sever\share.
STEP 3: Click Connect, it will attempt for the connection and creates the drive successfully if the path is correct.
STEP 4: Now go to My Computer you can see the network drive being mapped which you can open at anytime.

If you want to put a network drive on your system hard disk drives then you should go through the options of nwtwork mapping in your computer and verify it to locate a new network map on your drive and then you can create a new network in the drive of the computer.

Create a shortcut to (map) a network drive

When you create a shortcut to a shared folder or computer on a network (also calledmapping a network drive), you can get to it from Computer or Windows Explorer without having to look for it or type its network address each time.
    • Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
    • Click Map network drive.
The Map Network Drive dialog box

    • In the Drive list, click a drive letter.
You can choose any available letter.
    • In the Folder box, type the path of the folder or computer, or click Browse to find the folder or computer.
To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the Reconnect at logoncheck box.
    • Click Finish.
Your computer is now connected, or mapped, to the network drive.

    Note

If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, the computer you're trying to connect to might be turned off or you might not have the correct permissions. If you can't connect, contact your network administrator.

You can also create shortcuts to Internet locations, such as websites or FTP sites. Here’s how to do that:

    • Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
    • Right-click anywhere in the folder, and then click Add a network location.
    • Follow the steps in the wizard to add a shortcut to a location on your network, a website, or an FTP site.
