In competition to Windows 8, Apple has come up with the Mountain Lion OS. It is treated as the competitor to the Windows 8 OS. There was a huge competition based on Features in these both Operating Systems.

    Getting Started:

    Windows 8:

Whenever you log in in the Windows 8, you can view the Square and Rectangular Icons. Scroll it from Left to Right, you can view many of the Icons.

    Mountain Lion OS:

Whenever you log in to the Mountain Lion OS, you will view the Menu bar at the top, the OS X Dock at the bottom, and a cool Space - themed Photo for the Desktop Background.

You can browse the files and folders by just Clicking on the Blue Smiling Icon called as "Finder Icon".

    Notifications and Live Tools:

It is almost same for both the Operating Systems. It appears as a pop - up and at the Upper Right. It is a banner Syle Notification.

Windows 8 and Mountain Lion both are fully different from each other.
When you launch Windows 8, you see something completely different:-

    1. Instead of the familiar Start menu, taskbar, and Windows Explorer, you get the Start screen,
which consists of square and rectangular icons for your apps called Live Tiles

    2. Scrolling left and right lets you see more of your apps. Windows Explorer is still around if you want it,
but you would be forgiven for thinking that it is not.

    3. Start screen shows every app installed on your PC

    4. Windows 8 will run traditional desktop-style Windows applications too, and it will do so in a desktop
environment that resembles the layout of Windows 7

windows 8 reached its RTM (release to manufacturing) state and apples been out for few months.
Windows by comparison, must run on huge array of different hardware combinations. Unlike before setup was quite easy for windows 8 OS.
Below picture will explain the difference between MAC OS and Windows 8 more clearly.
