Is it legal to reuse the Windows 7 upgrade disc in another PC? Do I have to buy separate Windows OS if even if I have two PCs in the same home?

I just wanted to know if it is ok to install the same WIndows 7 in two PC which are in my home? Is it legal to do it? If itís not legal I never want to do it. So please do confirm if its ok for me to continue with using the same disc to install Windows 7.

    hi there,

It depends on situation and your subscription you own. If the CD/DVD you have is single user, it's not quite legal to be used on more than two systems at a time. And more over this, you can not actually install window in the second PC successfully. It would not get activated on the new computer with the same serial/activation key.

But, even if it is not multi user, you need not to worry.

You can purchase online a new subscription from Microsoft following the link : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/shop

Here, you will get the activation key delivered to you on email and you can even get chance to avail some discount for the second licence.

    enjoy..!!

    Hello my friend,

It depends on the license that you have purchased whether you have purchased for one system or for multiple systems.
If you have purchased windows 7 upgrade disc for only one pc,then you can use it only on one PC.
And it is illegal to use one disc on another system if it is purchased for only one system.

If you are purchasing for a company then avoid these kind of lawsuits, other wise you will end up in paying heavy fines.

    All the best.

Its not legal to use one windows 7 key in two systems.
If you want in your PC and lap then get a new OS key.
They register your key with your IP addres.
If you register multiple machines with your one key they will find out and lock your second registering machines OS.
if you never connect to internet thn you may install.

    Dear friend,

If you are having single user license for Windows 7, then it is illegal to use the Windows 7 upgrade disc to another PCís into your home. If you have multiple user license then it is legal to use Windows 7 upgrade disc into another PCís. If you use single user Windows 7 upgrade disc, then you are not going to face any problem at all because in most of the countries, people uses Windows without any license. Most of the assembled PCs and DOS PCs uses pirated copy of Windows. There is no difference between a pirated and a legally purchased Windows operating system until or unless you are working in a corporate environment. And also you cannot avail the Microsoftís online services with a pirated copy of Windows.

    Thanks!
