Mouse pointer moves automatically without any prompt on Windows XP

For the past few days, the mouse pointer moves by itself on my PC running on Windows XP. The situation remains same even after reconnecting the mouse with PC. What is the solution for this problem?

First of all, highlight the ‘Settings’ option available in the start menu after clicking the ‘Start’ button. Then, click the ‘Control Panel’ option from the available menu. Once you can view the ‘Control Panel’ window, make a single click on ‘Switch to category’ link in the left side bar. Then, click the ‘Printers and Other Hardware’ option available in the right pane. Locate the ‘Mouse’ icon afterwards and click on it. Press the ‘Pointers’ tab on the dialog box opens on the screen. Then, clear the check box on the right side of ‘Enhance pointer precision’ label under mouse properties.

    Hi friend,
    follow this step
    1.Go to 'start' button
    2.Then go to 'Control Panel'
3.click on 'HARDWARE DEVICES & PRINTERS'
4.After that click on 'Mouse' icon. Then mouse properties dialog box will open.
    5.Click the Pointer Options tab

To make the pointer work more accurately when you're moving the mouse slowly, under Motion, select the Enhance pointer precision check box.

To change the speed at which the mouse pointer moves, under Motion, move the Select a pointer speed slider toward Slow or Fast.

You probably did this but you go to control panel and see if there is anything weird in there.
Also, did you remove all the programs before you rebooted.
And of course if you have Win XP, you should be able to do a system restore previous to the problem.
    Good luck.
And just a curiosity what sort of surface are you using your mouse on. I found that if mine was on a desk calender pad or some thing with writing on it, I had a similar problem with arrow jumping around.
So use only plain surfaces under the mouse especially for optical mouse.

    It not big deal.
Some time its happen in PC.
But you can solve it by restarting computer.
If you are facing this type of problem all the time then you should to scan your computer or reconnecting your mouse.

Re: Mouse pointer moves automatically without any prompt on Windows XP

    Hi,

Mouse pointers abnormal movement can be settled following a setting change and sensitivity lowering.

Do it following the said method.

Start > Control Panel > Hardware devices and printers > Mouse > mouse properties dialog box will open.
    Click Pointer Options.

To point accurately while moving slowly, select the check box "Enhance pointer precision", under Motion.

To adjust speed of movement of mouse pointer, adjust "Select a pointer speed slider" under Motion option, to Slow or Fast. Press OK to confirm.

Check the system exhaustively with the help of a good antivirus software. The virus sometimes can cause disruption.

    Thanks.
