Is it necessary to reinstall sound card driver for updating it on windows vista?

I am facing some issues related to sound. I have already tried to fix these issues myself but failed all the time. Then I posted my problem in many blogs and forums and they suggested me to update the sound card driver. Should I uninstall the driver and reinstall its updated version? Is this the only way?

No it is not right to say that there is only one way i.e installing a newer version after uninstalling the previous one. Microsoft provides you the facility to update your drivers without uninstalling the previously installed driver but you would be able to update drivers only when its updates are made available. To do the same, follow the below given procedure:
    • First of all, click on "Start" and move to Navigate to "Control Panel".In control Panel, click on "System".
    • Now click on the tab which shows "Hardware" and then on "Device Manager". It can ask you to enter Administrator Password. In that case, simply enter it and click on "Continue".
    • After that click on expander "Sound, video, and game controllers". You will see some more option.Simply click on "Driver " tab.
    • Finally click on "Update Driver Software" and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Hi,

Updated Drivers are installed for the sake of latest features and powerfull execution of the program they are developed for.

You can use the default driver which Windows allot while getting itself installed.

You can also install the third party driver provided by the manufacturers of the display card which is specifically developed to run with the card.

Microsoft also provides latest drivers which are available on the net which can be installed to add features in the Visual world.

    Make your selection.

A sound card is a computer hardware device that can output data as audio signals to play sound over speakers or headphones. Sound cards require driver software or device drivers to work properly with a computer's operating system. Upgrading or installing new driver software can improve device function. If you have a computer that runs Windows Vista, you can attempt to install sound drivers automatically, or you can download and install one yourself.

    • Click "Start," right-click "Computer," choose "Manage," and then click "Device Manager."

    • 2Click on the plus (+) sign next to "Sound Video and Game Controllers." Your sound card will be listed in the expanded list of devices.

    • Right-click on your sound card and select "Update Driver Software...," and then choose "Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software." Windows will search for and install new driver updates.

    Manually Install Sound Drivers

    • 4Follow steps 1 and 2 from Section 1, and then right-click on your sound card, select "Properties" and take note of the name of your sound device and the device's manufacturer.

    • 5Go to the website of the sound card's manufacturer and search for driver downloads specific to your sound card and operating system. Many sound card manufacturers release downloads available directly from their websites.

    • 6Download a driver from the manufacturer and then run the setup or installation file when the download is complete. The downloaded file should have a .exe file extension.

    • 7Follow the driver installation wizard instructions. (You will have to read some information, agree to a license agreement and click "Next" a few times.) Restart your computer when the driver installation is complete.
