Network Icon is not found in Toolbar in Windows XP System

I turned ON Windows XP System. I connected to the internet, but could not find the Network Icon in the toolbar. I can access the internet, but could not find the icon. Why is it so? I restarted the System, but could not find the solution. What might be the problem? Please, help me!

To display a network connection icon on the taskbar

    1. Open Network Connections
    2. Under LAN or High-Speed Internet, click the network connection to be displayed on the taskbar. Then, under Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
    3. On the General tab, click the Show icon in taskbar notification area when connected check box.

    hiii...
It seems that the icon have been hided from your notification area.
To view that icon, press windows key+B.And press enter key.
tray icons will popup and there you have to click customize.
A lot of notification icons are present in the opened window.
Find the Network Icon and in front of that is a drop down list.
From that menu, select "show icons and notifications".
    And press OK.
    And Done!!
