Re: Windows XP shows the error message “windows has encountered a problem and must close” frequently Hi. The diagnosis can be done with some more information about your system and Windows. Like which updates you have installed and what happend during that, the service pack version etc. Check if the issue occur in "safe mode" after booting in "safe mode" by pressing F8 during booting. If the issue doesn't occur in safe mode then perform a "clean boot" and check the result. You may run System File Checker scan to fix the corrupted files , type "sfc/scannow" at the Command Prompt. Check if service pack 3 is installed on the computer. Right-click "My Computer" > "Properties" > "General" tab should show you the version of Windows XP and currently installed Windows Service Pack. Uninstall the last service pack you have installed , then reinstall it. Thanks.

Windows XP shows the error message “windows has encountered a problem and must close” frequently For the past few weeks, my PC running on Windows XP keeps displaying the error message “windows has encountered a problem and must close” intermittently. Also, the system won’t allow me to close windows too. It happens most of the times when I open and run a program for few minutes. How can I get rid of this error message?
