To change the default screen saver fallow these steps
    go to start menu
    select run
    type regedit then press enter
select the key "HKEY_USERS" -> select ".DEFAULT" -> Control Panel -> Desktop.
    select the option ScreensaveActive
then change the value from 1 to 0
    this will solve your problem

Re: Windows XP always showing the default screen saver

Windows XP has a default screen saver but at the same time every screen saver has its own standard settings. So we need to know what is actually troubling you.

First try in this way...the default screen saver you are getting, for that check the standard behavior settings of it by selecting it and clicking on the 'Settings' button. May be this can fix your problem.

If the issue persists, try as follows:-

    > Click Start -> Run -> type 'regedit' in the text box to get the Registry Editor file.

    > Open Registry Editor and under 'My Computer', double click on the folder "HKEY_USERS" -> select ".DEFAULT" -> Control Panel -> Desktop.

    > Now in RHS, find the name "ScreenSaveActive". Change its value to "0" in the window that appears by double clicking on it.

    Hope this helps...
