No Sound when Portable music player is connected to my Windows 7 System

I have Windows 7 in my System. Whenever I connect music player to Windows 7 System, I cannot hear sound from the System. What might be the problem? Please, can anyone help me in solving the problem.

Initially when you connect external music player, sometimes your System’s sound may set toi Mute. You need to enable the sound.
    Follow these simple steps:

STEP 1: Click Start >> Control panel.
STEP 2: Click “Hardware and Sound”.
    STEP 3: Click “Sound”.
STEP 4: Tap on the Playback” Tab.
STEP 5: Click “Speakers” >> Properties.
STEP 6: Tap on the “Levels” Tab.
STEP 7: Click on the “Mute” Button under “Line-in” to unmute or enable sound .
