Not able to read the Microsoft Word document properly, it just shows some mix of characters instead of words

I copied a document to my flash drive which I have created from my old lap which runs Windows XP. Now when I tried to access the same file in Windows 7 OS via flash drive the word document shows only mix of characters but not the words. How to fix this problem? How can I access my doc again properly?

hi my dear friend.....there is nothing a problem because the file you opend is not in the MS WORD document formate

that is why it showing like that .....and to overcome this issue ....

the file ....you need to open with another software like Acrobat reader

or convert that document in to word document ...then open with ms word

for that first you need to find out the formate of your file......

so just right click on the file and click on the properties

then see the formate of your file....

then choose the another appropriate programe for the file.....or for alternative

download the corresponding file formate to word convertor then .....install it

and convert the file in to word document formate ....then open with the ms word......ALL THE BEST

    hi, friend.

    >> you have problem with character read.

    >> just follow this things and you have done.

    >> this type of things done because of font is not match with that document file .

    >> first of all make it clear that your document is made in which font.

    >> if it is in English language then just select all line and change font to Arial .

    >> now you can read it.

    >> or if you have it in other language then you have to install font for that in each and every machine in which you want to open it.

    >> otherwise you can make pdf file.

The document file that you have imported from your old Windows XP based system was not readable to windows 7 based system becquse of the file format in which the file was saved and transported in the newer system.

Get back to the Windows XP based system, open MS Word, find the file and use Save As in word format/Simple Text format. Then copy the file to the portable media and install it in Windows 7 MSWord and things will be changed to let you see everything normally rather than those machine languages.

okay. you missed a small thing..
you might have used office 7 in your previous Operating System(Windows XP)..
when you try to open in windows 7 which has Office 2003 or office XP this kind of problem arises.

let me tell me clearly, latest office versions will save the document in docx as default format. But older versions like 2003, office XP will save the document in doc....

When you try to open docx format files in 2003 or Office XP applications it will not support...

so try to use some third party applications to convert docx to doc or install latest office package like Office 2007 or 2013...

    happy to assist you
