Not getting sound from HDMI output after connecting laptop running on Windows 7 to TV

I have connected my laptop running on Windows 7 to TV using a HDMI cable. Even though it is possible to watch videos on TV without any problem, I am not able to hear the sound. It seems that there is no sound coming from the HDMI output. What are the steps required to resolve this issue?

Go to the bottom left corner on the desktop and click the ‘Start’ button. When you can view the start menu, select ‘Control Panel’ from it. Locate the ‘View by’ label and click the drop down icon under it. You need to choose ‘Large icons’ from the drop down menu. The next step required is to click the ‘Sound’ option and check whether the HDMI Output can be found under ‘Playback’ tab. If not, right click on the playback window and wait until a menu pop up on the screen. Select both ‘Show Disabled Device’ and ‘Show Disconnected Device’ from that menu. Once you find the HDMI Output, right click on it and choose ‘Default Device’ option.
