Is it okay to install Windows 7 Professional in Netbooks?

I have a Netbook with Windows XP. It has 1 GB RAM and Atom processor. I want to install Windows 7 Professional . Is it okay to install Windows 7? I hope there will be no performance issue and the system will still work smoothly.

Re: Is it okay to install Windows 7 Professional in Netbooks?

Since Windows 7 offers no real upgrade path from XP and you have to wipe out everything, the first thing I need to do is backup all the Zune music I purchased using my monthly 10 free song credits. I plan to use my external Maxtor 750 GB drive to transfer the music from the Wind to this drive and then back again after installing Windows 7. I do not use the Wind for photo editing or storage so there is really not much else I care about wiping out on the device. I also want to caution you that many services have a limited number of PCs you can use to manage devices and wiping out XP and installing Windows 7 will in most cases count as two separate computers. I have seen this with the Sony Reader desktop software, iTunes, and Zune Marketplace so make sure you go through and deauthorize your existing computer with all of these services before you wipe it clean.
I then plan to use a USB flash drive to install Windows 7 following Kevin's guidance on how to install Windows 7 on a netbook with no optical drive. I recommend you check out Sascha Segan's recent article on Five Key Tips for Installing Windows 7 on Netbooks, since he also mentions installing from a USB stick and troubles he had with this method and with using an external DVD drive.
If you buy a new netbook, you are most likely to find it loaded with Windows 7 Starter Edition and as pointed out on the Windows Team Blog there are a few limitations with this version compared to Home, Professional, and Ultimate. These include no support for Aero Glass, limited personalization of the desktop, no multi-monitor support, no DVD playback support out of the box, no XP mode, and no remote media streaming. For netbook users these may not be limitations at all and honestly I could probably live with them all as well. I do have a copy of Ultimate though so plan to try that out on the MSI Wind.
Have any readers installed Windows 7 on their netbook and if so, are you finding it is worth the upgrade from XP on these small notebooks?

    dear friend,

System required to install windows 7 is as follows-

    1GHz processor.

    1GB RAM for 32-bit & 2 GB RAM for 64-bit.

16 GB available hard disk space for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit.

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Since you've 1GB RAM so you can install windows 7 32bit version.

But before doing, check that all the other specification available in your computer.

If your Notebook is fulfilling all the above criteria then you can install windows 7 32bit without any hesitation.

    Hi,

I can understand the temptation of installing the most sold Windows from Microsoft stable as it is highly imaginative , interactive and productive.
Can you install it ? the answer is "yes" you can, but you must think of the resultant effects alongwith.
The Atom processor is the cheap version of Intel made processors and in doing so that has lost a few power packs. They are mainly used to provide low power consuming, yet can do a lot of things if not all. And Win 7 pro is a power packed OS , resource hungry , all doing program that needs top spec configuration.

So dont aget angry if your wait gets longer or if you face one hell of a time from Atom Win7 concoction.

    Thank you.

    hiiiiiiii,
yes you an install Windows 7 on a netbook or other PC that doesn't have an internal DVD drive and windows 7 has some system requirements those are
1-GHz processor, 1GB of ram and support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB of memory and it recommends that you have at least 16GB of available hard disk space.
    follow these steps
you can download Windows 7 in a special format called an ISO file and use the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to create a USB flash drive, which you can then use to install Windows 7 on your netbook and If you already have a Windows 7 installation disc, you can attach an external DVD drive to your netbook to install Windows 7.
    Thank You

If you want to install Windows 7 OS in your laptop you have enough configration.
So you have 1 GB ram, it is enough.
    Install Windows 7.
This is very good featured OS for PC's.
You will get good experience with windows 7 OS.
Your computer will run faster then it runs in window vista.
Booting process will also be faster than vista.
So there is no loss in installing windown 7.

Re: Is it okay to install Windows 7 Professional in Netbooks?

If you have less than 2GB of memory, the system will slow down considerably if you are running too many tasks

    1.

Use the performance troubleshooter to scan for problems that affect the computer's performance. Open the Control Panel and type "Troubleshooter" in the search box. Click "Find and Fix Problems." Scroll to the bottom where it says "System and Security" and click "Check for Performance Issues." The troubleshooter will give you recommendations once the scanning completes.

2Remove programs that you do not use. If the netbook is brand-new, it likely came with trial software installed by different software companies. It is assumed that you will try their software and eventually upgrade to a paid version. Keeping unnecessary software on the netbook will slow it down by using disk space and memory. Go to "Start," "Control Panel," "Programs," then "Programs and Features." Choose the program from the list and click "Uninstall.

    3
Turn off unnecessary visual effects. This includes Aero features that make Windows look more visually appealing. From the Control Panel, type "Performance Information and Tools." Click "Adjust Visual Effects." You may need to provide an administrator password, then go to the "Visual Effects" tab. Click "Adjust for Best Performance," then "OK" to confirm. Alternatively, choose "Let Windows Choose What's Best for My Computer."

4Reduce the number of programs that begin at startup. Nearly every program on the computer adds something to the startup list during installation. This will help the programs run faster, but is unnecessary for programs you rarely use. Download "AutoRuns for Windows" to determine what programs are set to run automatically and disable them by clearing the check box.

yes my dear friend you can easily install windows 7 in your tablet.
As you are saying that your tablet has a ram of 1 giga hertz so it qualifies for installing 32 bit windows 7.
All you need to have is some available space in your notebook.
So good luck installing windows 8!!!
