Only Mouse Cursor Appears after Restarting windows XP

I am using windows xp from a long time and I really like this version of windows but yesterday one strange problem occurred. It was working fine but when I restarted it, there was no start button,No taskbar, No any Icon nothing. The thing which was only present was the Mouse cursor. I don’t know now what to do with this. I tried restarting it so many times but the problem is still the same.

The problem is with the windows explorer process .i will explain

While using the windows xp go to task manager and see how many process are running in the processes tat. you may find approx 30 to 40. all the processes are given the process id and the type is also mentioned . the processes that are mentioned SYSTEM are started by the operating system and they are mandatory to run .

So windows explorer is a process that comes under system and it has to run all the time. windows explorer helps the user to see the windows ,icons on desktop etc... The problem in your system is that your system cannot run that process anymore.

You can crosscheck it my pressing the ctrl+alt+del while you can see the mouse cursor on your scree. when you press these combination keys you can see the task manager window. in the process tab check weather you have the windows explorer process is running or not.
This may caused due to virus problems. the virus may stop a crucial processes

So the solution is to start the os in safe mode and see weather you can see the icons and even if the icons are not displayed in safe mode its better to re install your operating system.

physically the drive should be fine even a complete re-install won't hurt it

Boot to your installation disk, and after selecting language click on repair (bottom left corner). Select your OS, and let it try and find whats wrong.
you may have 2 do it a few times as Windows only attempts 2 fix one thing @ a time

If you have this type of problem some time then its ok.
But if you have this type of problem every time then you should to reinstall window.
It may be virus or file corruption problem.
