Pictures get frozen on preview while opening ‘My Pictures’ folder on Windows XP

It is possible to open ‘My Pictures’ folder on my PC running on Windows XP. But when I start viewing the pictures, they will get stuck on ‘Generating preview’ message. How can I get rid of this issue?

You need to uninstall Windows Picture and Fax Viewer application from your PC and install it again. At first, open the start menu by clicking the ‘Start’ button located at the left part of the desktop. Select the ‘Run’ option from the start menu afterwards for bring up the ‘Run’ dialog box. Then, locate the ‘Open’ field and type regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll into it. After that, run that command by pressing the ‘Enter’ key. Restart the computer afterwards for uninstalling the application. To re-install that application, you need to first type regsvr32 /i %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll into ‘Run’ dialog box after the reboot and hit the ‘Enter’ key. Once the process mentioned in the command finish running on the system, restart the PC again. Finally, try to open a picture from ‘My Picture’ folder and check whether the issue still persists or not.

    Hello there !!

yes it is possible to open the my picture folder running on your windows xp.
since the picture get stucked while generating the preview because of the following reason :-

    1. either your picture size is too large
so it might be taking a time to generate the picture.

    2. your system processing speed has been slow down.
    3. either your picture is corrupt/infected.

so these are the very possible treason for not getting viewed your picture.
so for getting rid , you must install antivirus and scan your system.
try to use different picture viewing application to open your picture.

    this will help you out.
hope i am clear to you .
    thanks for posting in EALP.
