Is it possible to add MKV files into ‘Video’ section on Windows Media Player library?

When I try to add MKV files into Windows Media Player library on my PC, I found that they are visible under ‘Other’ section. I need to add them into ‘Video’ section instead of that. Is there any way available for that?

Re: Is it possible to add MKV files into ‘Video’ section on Windows Media Player library?

As a first step, open a Notepad on your PC. Copy the following data and paste into the new page on Notepad.
    • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    • [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mkv]
    • "PerceivedType"="video"
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\W MPlayer\Extensions\.mkv]
    • "PerceivedType"="video"
    • "Permissions"=dword:0000000f
    • "Runtime"=dword:00000007
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ MLS\Extensions]
    • "mkv"="video"
After that, you need to click on the file menu and select ‘Save as’ option. Type the filename as WMP_MKV.reg and press the ‘Save’ button. Once you save that file, double click on it for adding into registry. Then, restart the Windows Media Player on your PC. From then on, the MKV files will be added into ‘Video’ section automatically instead of ‘Other’.
