    Hi,

So far password protecting a folder in Windows is concern, there is no such password security available.

But you can Right click on the "folder" and then select "Properties", after that from the menu offered select "Security" and by setting permission as offered you can protect your interest.

Another way is to install a third party software from the internet, like 7ZIP or Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security which offers different security by protecting files or folders.

    Thanks.

Hello i am Heemanshu Bhalla - cse engineer
If you share a computer with other users and want some extra security on your folders
There are two ways to password protect a folder built into Windows XP (for other Windows flavors, there are some freeware/shareware programs out there). If you’d like to password protect a flash drive, please read this tip.
If you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect folders from other users. Your hard drive must be formatted using NTFS (which it probably is unless you’re dual booting with another operating system). Here’s what to do…
Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose Properties (or Alt+Double-click). Go to theSharing tab and check the Make this folder private box.

Click Apply . If you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up asking if you want to assign a password.

This must be done if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on.
Type in a password then confirm it. Click the Create Password button then close the Password window.

Click OK in the Properties dialog box.
Now anyone else logged on to your computer can’t access that file without knowing your password.

    HELLO ASPIRANT ,

Since you didnt mention the OS you are using

for Microsoft Windows XP professional users
The below steps for encrypting the files on Windows XP professional applies to users who are using a computer that has different accounts.

If you're using a single account...

    • Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
    • Right-click the folder and click Properties.
    • Click the Advanced button.
    • Check "Encrypt contents to secure data" option.
    • Click Apply and then Ok.

    ALL THE BEST

    My dear friend,

I will help you to solve your problem, just follow as i say...........

You can lock the desktop folders with the password. But for that you need
to install a 'Universal shield 4.7' software.

you can download it from 'www.everstrike.com/shield.htm'.

1.After downloading install that software in your computer.

    2.Then make that software open.

3.Then go to the 'File' and select the files which you want to lock.

4.Then click on the option 'Protect'.

    Have a nice day..........
