Is it possible to modify the setting of "Fn" key in windows 7 Laptop?

I am a software develop who often uses Function keys like-F1,F2,F3,F4,F5 etc but I don't like the way to use it. Generally you need to Press "Fn" button at the bottom first and then the function key to use function keys which is little tedious. I want to customize this setting. Is it possible in windows 7? If yes then how?

To change the settings of "fn' key follow these steps ::

    >> Open BIOS of your laptop

    >> Now go to Advanced tab

    >> Look for the option "Function key behavior"

    >> Change it to "Function key first" from "Multimedia key first"

    >> Save your BIOS settings

Now you can directly use function keys

    hii

You are saying that you want to customize the settings of the function keys ...
As per your query i can conclude that you are saying that you want to use these function keys without making an combination with the Fn key ...

Well friend... i would like to tell you that according to me its not possible that you use the function keys without having them combined with the Fn key first ...

But you can try out by following the below steps and then see if it makes any difference or not :

    - Firstly go to control panel
    - Then open hardware and sound
    - Now you will see the option saying adjust commonly used mobility settings... just click and open it
    - At last you will see the option of Fn key behavior where you can change some of the settings as it provides ...

    thanks

    dear friend,

Of course you can change the settings of Fn key in your windows 7 laptop.

You have to use BIOS menu to do that.

Restart your computer & press the function key which will take you to the bios menu.

Navigate to the Advanced tab under the main menu with the help of arrow keys & hit enter.

Enter to the Function key behavior option.

You have to choice Function key first option among the two- Function key first & Multimedia key first option.

If you choice function key first then you can set various windows OS shortcut to that key.

If you select multimedia key first then you can set different audio-video shortcuts to the function key.

Select & define the shortcuts to the function key.

After changing all, select Save & Exit to save the changes.

Now you can experience the changes after start up.

    Check the function key now.

Yes it is possible to change the keys function according to you convenience with the help of softwares.
LIKE "SHARPKEYS" It’s a small utility that will let you easily map one key to another key easily, or even turn the key off, without having to enter the registry at all.

There are few other softwares like "keytweak" which is also used to change the function of the keys.
You can use these type of softwares which will not affect your registry and helps you to change the function of the keys.

    """""DEAR"""

    1) restart your computer

    2) the first screen that comes up should be a black screen. when the words "press esc to..." show up press the esc button. for my particular model I had to quickly hit esc twice, so if you don't end up in the intended area the first time then you should re-restart your computer and try that.

    3) there should be a screen with four or so of the "f" keys and what menus they open. hit f10 for the BIOS menu.

    4) you should be in a white and blue menu. you can use the left and right arrow keys to cycle through pages and the up and down ones to cycle through options. cycle through the pages until you find one that has a setting to do with "action keys". Hit enter to select this and then disable it.

    5) hit f10 to exit and save your changes.
