Preventing programs from starting up automatically on Windows XP

Each time I boot up my PC running on Windows XP, I can find some programs start up without any prompts. I want to access them from desktop or startup menu whenever I need it or instead of this automatic start up. How can I accomplish this?

Install ccleaner on your PC and run it. Click the tools/start up option in that app. Then, delete the entries you don’t want to start up automatically by right clicking and selecting the ‘Delete’ option. You can also use Configuration Utility to prevent this automatic start up. For that, first click on the ‘Run’ option in startup menu appears after pressing the ‘Start’ button. Type msconfig into the field become visible on the screen afterwards and press the ‘Enter’ key. Click on ‘Startup’ tab in Configuration Utility window pop up on the screen. Uncheck the check box reside near the unnecessary programs.
