    Recovery of over written folders on Dell laptop powered by Windows

    I have accidentally over written the contents of a file on another file with the same file name. But actually the name is similar but the contents within that file are different and I want both files back. I am using a Dell laptop powered by Windows. Can I get both these files back?

    I think you cannot do this.
    But if you havent added any new files in the system there is a little chance of getting back.
    First copy the file you have to the new location.
    Then download recuva software from the internet.
    then install the same in your system.
    just run the program to get the deleted files.

    7.Click restore.it will prompt you for a location to restore the file to. This will allow you to retain the original in case you restore an incorrect version.

    Sorry Pal, There are very very little chances of it showing up positive. But, you can still try the PREVIEW HISTORY of the FILE. Here's what you should do :

    * Right click on the file.

    * click on PROPERTIES

    * Go to PREVIOUS VERSIONS tab

    * click on any of the PREVIOUS VERSIONS of the file (if any)

    * Click OK.

    Hope You get some help.!! Best of Luck..!!

    Hello,

    1.Click the Start icon in the lower left of your computer screen.

    2.Type the world "Explorer" into the small rectangular Start Search box that will appear.

    3.Navigate to the folder containing the current version of the file you want to recover.

    4.Click the right button on your mouse on the file you want to restore.

    5.Click on Properties, then click the "Previous Versions" tab.

    6.Take care at this point not to automatically click "Restore" because it will overwrite your present version and you will lose any new work you've done since you overwrote the previous version.

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

    Friend, you can retrieve the Over Written Folder. You can view the previous Content in the Folder by following these Steps.

    STEP 1: Click the Start Icon and type "Explorer" in the Search Box. Click on "Windows Explorer" which you can see on the Top.

    STEP 2: Move to the Folder which you want to retrieve. If Documents Folder Opens, Scroll down to view your Folder which you want to retrieve.

    STEP 3: Right - Click on the File which you want to Restore.

    STEP 4: Click on "Properties" and Click "Previous Versions" tab.

    STEP 5: Now, be careful that to select the right Option.

    • If you Select "Restore", you will loose the present Version and cannot view the Content of the Folder.
    • Click "Copy" , if you want to Restore the Old Version and to Copy the new Version some where. Target File Opens and you can Save any where, where you want.4
