Resetting an Icon for windows Library in windows 7

The windows 7 libraries in windows explorer are virtual folders that compile and present the contents of various folders as per file type. One can create new virtual folders other than default from the context menu in the “Libraries” view. However by default windows always displays these new libraries with the same icon. This makes it difficult for the user to distinguish between libraries with a quick scan rather than always reading all the names which is not quick. So please give me a way to reset an Icon for windows library.

The “Library” is actually a set of rules written in xml defining what you see when you open it. To reset an Icon ,first of all open the windows explorer and then go to the directory ‘\AppData\Roamin\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries’ which is in your profile folder, and browse to the storage location for the defined libraries. You can now use any text editor such as Notepad and move the icon of the relevant library via Drag and drop into the editor. Do not try to launch the library through the editor with the help of the ‘Open with’ command. It won’t even be possible to use the ‘File >open ...’ command. This is because we want to edit the shortcut, not open the library itself. You will see the instructions that define the library displayed as XML code in the text editor. Add a new row under the ‘<isLibraryPinned>true</isLibraryPinned>’ row and create the XML tag “<IconReference>” that includes the entire path of the desired Icon , for instance ‘<IconReference>C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Amazon \Kindle\application\KindleBook.ico</IconReference>’. Save the file once these steps have been carried out and then windows will Immediately present the library along with the new assigned Icon.

Re: Resetting an Icon for windows Library in windows 7

Windows by default provides the following libraries:
    • Documents
    • Music
    • Pictures
    • Videos

whenever you make any new library same icon is there for all the new created library.
It makes the task of identifying a little bit difficult as we have to read the name of each library, but if the icon could be changed then it is would become much easier to distinguish between the libraries just by looking at the icon image.

you can do so by following the given steps:

    • Type in one of the following dll files
      • ddores.dll (mostly hardware-related)
      • shell32.dll (hundreds of assorted icons)
      • wmp.dll (a few media-related icons)
      • moricons.dll (various low-res, old school Windows icons).
    • choose an icon
    • select the library you'd like to apply it to
    • click Select icon from dll.
Thats all you will get a library with the icon you desire.

    dear friend,

follow these steps to reset an Icon for windows library-

open the windows explorer & go to Directory > AppData > Roamin > Microsoft > Windows > Libraries.

browse the storage location for the defined library.

open notepad & drag/drop the icon relevant of library on it.

Don't choose OPEN WITH option to open the library.

you'll see the instructions which defines the library as XML code in the notepad.

Add a new row under the <isLibraryPinned>true</isLibraryPinned> row and create the XML tag “<IconReference>” that includes the entire path of the desired Icon.

    for instance ‘<IconReference>C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Amazo n \Kindle\application\KindleBook.ico</IconReference>’.
