Resolution changes automatically to less than 1600x1200px even after setting it to 1920x1080px

I have a full HD monitor connected to my Graphics card via HDMI port and it as real good clarity but when I try to set the resolution as 1920x1080px it just goes back automatically to less than 1600x1200px size and gives the error message saying "Your resolution is set lower than 1600x1200. Some items may not fit on your screen". Why this is happening? Have anyone come across this type of problem? Is it because of my Windows 7 OS?

    Dear Friend!!
In Windows 7, there is a feature in which your monitor is automatically detected and the resolution is adjusted in accordance to the monitor.
If you wish not to make these automatic changes, you need to uncheck the option of "auto detect monitor" in display/adjust resolution setting..
    Hope this would help you.
