Search window pops up automatically while clicking on a folder in Windows XP

When I click on a folder in my PC running on Windows XP, I saw a search window on the screen instead of the corresponding file inside the folder. I tried to open another folder and the same issue has repeated there also. What should I do to avoid this?

As a first step, click the ‘Start’ button visible on the bottom left corner of the desktop. Once you can view the start menu, choose ‘Run’ option from it. Type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll into the run box afterwards and press the ‘OK’ button. If you can still find the issue, then you need to make modifications in registry editor. You can bring up the ‘Registry Editor’ by typing regedit into run box and pressing the ‘OK’ button. Navigate into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell from the left pane in the Registry Editor window. Click on ‘Default’ value after that and choose ‘Modify’ from the ‘Edit’ menu. Then, enter none into the Value data box and press the ‘OK’ button.
