    hi,
there can be one possibility that might have happened to your desktop windows.your software installation was either flawed or incomplete.do you have a genuine copy of windows XP?
if you dont have get one or if you have re-install the whole programme. select custom installation while installing wind0ws.i beleive that will sort your problem out.
    good luck.

    Hello,

1.Go into the control panel and power options.

2.Next to your selected plan, click the 'Change plan settings' link.

3.In the window that opens, click the 'Change Advanced Power Settings' link.

4.Click the + sign next to 'Sleep'

5.Click the + sign next to 'Allow hybrid sleep'

    6.Change the setting to 'Off'.

You can start hibernation of your PC manually, if hibernation is enabled, by:
    1. Selecting 'Turn Off The Computer'' from the Start menu.
    2. Normally the left choice on the resulting pop-up window is ''Stand-By''. But, if you hold down the Shift key it becomes ''Hibernate''. So holding down the Shift-Key and clicking on the resulting ''Hibernate'' button (the left-most button) will cause your computer to start hibernation mode.

Note that many computers also have a button for starting hibernation mode also. Often pressing the Power button while the computer is on will cause it to go into Hibernation.
