The start up and also the shutting down of windows in my HP desktop with Windows XP appear to be quite slow. But rest of the time the system works quite normal. How to come over this issue?

Hello my friend , Before shutting down your computer, ensure that all programs have been properly closed. Then shut down your computer. computer takes time to start up because there are many unnecessary programms also started with windows. to make your system start up faster do these steps 1)open RUN type msconfig and OK 2)now a small window will pop up 3)under the start up tab, uncheck the unnecessary programs which loads with window, in this ways you can decrease your start up time. ALL THE BEST.

Windows XP become sluggish with time as you use.
This is because you have too many application or program which start as you start your windows, which makes the booting very slow.

So, what you have to do is :->
Go to start and type RUN, now type "msconfig" .
In the new window, you can see all the programs which run at start up, uncheck all those which you dont need.
For instance , you can uncheck bluetooth, as you can start it later on.

After unchecking , you have to start these programs manually.

Also remove all unwanted programs by going control panel & then "Remove/uninstall programs".

    dear friend,

Windows takes some times to start up for booting process.

Loads of programs increases the booting time.

So delete unnecessary files & uninstall unused programs to make your computer fresh.

Before shutting time check all the programs are properly closed or not.

Don't try to force shutdown at any time.

    Hello,
DO not worry this is a very frequent problem and occurs with many people. This is mainly due to virus problem and nothing else. You just need to scan your C Drive with a good antivirus like Norton or quick heal. You can buy it from any tech shop or you may get it from your vendor only. Once you install it, it will ask you to go for a scan. Choose to scan then and there only. After you scan the system, either it will go for an automatic restart or it will ask you to give permission for restart. If you have very urgent work to do then you can go for a later restart.

Re: Slow start and stop issues in HP desktop with Windows XP

    Some reasons for computer slowness:
    1. Computer is infected with malware and does not maintained.
    2. Hard drive is too full. Remove unnecessary stuff, uninstall unused programs. Don't forget to back up!
    3. Flaky third-party software. Toolbars and add-ons are particular culprits in this area. Uninstall toolbars like Google, Yahoo, ISP-branded, etc. and look carefully at what add-ons are in use in your browser(s).
    4. Computer has too many unnecessary programs/processes running in the background. Manage this.
    5. User is running a bloated/invasive antivirus program such as ones from Norton and McAfee. Replace with a better program. I recommend either NOD32 (commercial) or Avast (free).
    6. User has installed new programs that are processor and/or memory-intensive like Photoshop, AutoCAD, Mathmatica and doesn't have the necessary hardware power.
    7. Hard drive is failing and is in PIO Mode (IDE drives only - not applicable to SATA drives). This is very dramatically slow (like being back in 1985).
