Steps to be taken for disabling visual effects on Windows XP

Even though the visual effects with my PC running on Windows XP is appealing, it slows down the performance of the system. I need to disable this feature as soon as possible. How to do it?

The first step required is to right click on ‘My Computer’ icon on desktop and choose ‘Properties’ from the pop-up menu. Press the ‘Advanced’ tab from the ‘Properties’ window and click the ‘Settings’ button under ‘Performance’ section. This will open up the ‘Performance Options’ window on the screen. Make certain that the ‘Visual Effects’ tab is already opened on the window. Click the radio button next to ‘Adjust for best performance’ label. After that, select the ‘Custom’ option and navigate through the list of visual effects. You can then disable the effects you need by clearing the checkbox next to it.

Re: Steps to be taken for disabling visual effects on Windows XP

If you are running Windows XP on a slower computer you may want to turn off all the excess visual effects. These effects can look appealing, but there is no doubt that the more visual effects the Operating System has to handle, the slower the system will be. You can disable the visual effects to increase the speed of Windows XP

    1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.

    2. Click on the Advanced Tab

    3. Then under the Performance section click the settings button

    4. The Performance Options window should open with the Visual Effects tab open

    5. choose the option to Adjust for best performance. This will turn off all of the visual enhancements

    6. You can also select which option you would like to turn on or off. To do this select Custom, then check the boxes next to the options you would like to turn on

    7. Just remember that the more visual effects that you turn on, the slower the computer will respond

    8. After you have made you changes, click the apply button and then OK

There should be a noticeable difference in speed, especially in older machines.
