Steps to be taken for removing blue icons from Windows XP desktop

When I turn on my PC running on Windows XP, I can view blue dark icons on the desktop. I am not able to get rid of them. What is the procedure for removing them?

Click the ‘Start’ button first and select ‘Control Panel’ from the start menu. Once you can view the ‘Control Panel’ window, click the ‘Performance and Maintenance’ option. Select the ‘Adjust Visual Effects’ option afterwards and change the visual effects according to your need. In case you are using the Classic theme, then navigate into System->Advanced->Performance->Settings and make sure that the checkbox next to ‘Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop’ label is already checked. Get back to the desktop afterwards and right click on any empty space. Then, point to ‘Arrange icons’ option and make certain that ‘Lock Web Items’ option is not checked. If you can’t still get rid of the icons, then there may be web content on the desktop. To remove that, right click on any space in desktop first and choose ‘Properties’ from the available menu. Press the ‘Desktop’ tab afterwards and hit the ‘Customize Desktop’ button. Then, select the ‘Web’ tab and clear off everything from Web pages box. After that, press the ‘OK’ button and select ‘Apply’ option. You may need to select the ‘OK’ option for saving the changes.

I think this could solve this problem :-
*Right-click on your desktop and select: Properties

    *Then click on Desktop tab

*Then choose Customize Desktop then Web (tab)

    *Then uncheck "Lock Desktop Items",

    *click OK and APPLY.
