    dear friend,

If you have free space in your hard drive then you can easily expand the volume of your back up drive.

If you don't have then you have to reduce the volume of any drive then add the reduced space to the new drive.

If you don't have the free space-

    Click on the Start button.

    Right click on Computer.

Select the manage option-if prompted then provide the administrator password.

    Computer Management window will appear.

Click on the Disk management option in the left pane.

Now you can see all the drives on your computer.

Right click on that drive which volume you want to reduce & click on the Shrink volume option.

Then follow the wizard as prompted to reduce the space.

At the time of naming, assign the same name of your backup drive.

If the name of the backup drive is D then select the new drive name as D also.

After finishing, you'll see that the new volume has been merged to the backup volume.

If you already have the free space-

Go to the disk management in the same way mentioned above.

Right click on the drive & click on Extend volume.

Then follow the wizard to extend the volume of the desired drive.

As back up drive, it is your Recovery Partition

Your back up Drive normally is the Recovery Partition, that the Manufacturer put there, for your computer to put it back to factory settings in case of System Crash.

Contact your Computer Manufacturer on how to remove anything you have saved to the Recovery Drive, as it is their Recovery Partition, not Microsoft’s.

It is not for you to save anything to; and it is not to compress and/or Index,, Disk Cleanup, use for Backup, Defrag or have System Restore turned on for it.

You are supposed to have made Recovery disks from D:, in case of Hard Drive failure.

Ask the Manufacturer how to make them, and how to delete/fix what has been done there.
